What are some things you would like to see solved in the industry? And likewise, how might AI begin to solve them?
Kind of similar to some of the points I went over in my essay, but I’ve been out there working in the skilled trades, and the labor shortage is getting scary. It’s getting hard to find people who are both skilled and reliable, and there are a lot of people who are in their late 50’s and 60’s who will be retiring soon. My dad – who owns a remodel business – always says that he loves the work side of things and wishes he didn’t have to be in the office all the time. I think AI has to potential to help small business owners get things off their plates so they can be more present in the field.
Let me know what you think!

Here are some challenges in the construction industry and potential AI-driven solutions:
Workplace Safety: High incidence of injuries and fatalities. Solution: Advanced hazard detection systems using computer vision and real-time site monitoring could identify risks before incidents occur.
Project Delays: Delays due to poor scheduling and unexpected disruptions. Solution: Predictive analytics to anticipate delays and reschedule dynamically, considering past project data and current site conditions.
Cost Overruns: Rework and material waste significantly increase project costs. Solution: Digital twin technology and AI-powered simulations could improve planning accuracy and detect errors in design or execution early.
Labor Shortages: Difficulty in finding skilled workers. Solution: Autonomous machinery and robots could handle repetitive tasks, freeing up skilled labor for complex work.
Environmental Sustainability: Material waste. Solution: AI-driven material optimization tools could reduce waste by identifying the exact quantities needed for projects.
