I’m not a construction professional yet, but as a student there are a few ways I’ve heard about companies using AI. The most interesting example I’ve seen so far is AI powered drones to monitor site performance.
If you aren't a construction professional, how do you use AI at work? and do you think it could translate to be useful in construction?
Feedback is an important part of progress, what did you think of my essay in general as well?
I think your essay was very good Clarie! You bring up interesting points about the 2 different camps of thought process (for and against AI).
I think there are some very applicable uses for AI - specifically to use to brainstorm a risk register for potential safety hazards. It will do the brainstorming work and create an extensive list. From there, the project lead can involve their team members to go through the different risks one by one and discuss the probability and mitigation plans to avoid.
This saves time from the team spending hours brainstorming when they could have a very reasonable starting point to begin their discussions.
I think the practical applications of AI is amazing and can save us many hours of work to focus on higher priority items.
I would love to hear other people's opinion on introducing AI into construction.
I like the way you weigh the potential benefits and risks of using AI. Having a balanced approach like that helps strengthen your article. I thought the risks around trust and humans becoming unskilled resonate more than the environmental impact. I'm not saying environmental risks shouldn't be considered, but data trends over the past few decades are not as scary as many would have us believe, and the number of deaths impacted by environmental reasons have decreased 99% over the past 100 years. Overall, great balance and reasoning throughout your article! Nice work!
I am not in construction, but I have used AI in project management to help me save time and be more efficient. For example, AI has helped me analyze complex and long documents quickly, write communications, put together project plans and schedules, and build artifacts that help with things like risk and resource management. All of these, in my opinion, could easily apply to construction project planning and management.
